
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 25

Requesting the Division of Highways name the bridge which crosses
Buffalo Creek in Bethany, Brooke County, the "Alexander
Campbell Bridge".

Whereas, Alexander Campbell was a noted educator and publisher
who founded Bethany College, the state's oldest degree-granting
institution of higher learning; and

Whereas, The bridge that spans Buffalo Creek, upon the banks
of which the town of Bethany was settled, and connects Bethany
College and the grounds of Alexander Campbell's former estate is
presently without an official name; and

Whereas, The people of Bethany desire the bridge which is
presently identified as the "Buffalo Creek Bridge" on State Route
67 be officially recognized as the "Alexander Campbell Bridge";
therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways
name the bridge which crosses Buffalo Creek in Bethany, Brooke County, the "Alexander Campbell Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways cause an
appropriate sign to be placed at either end of this bridge which
designates the bridge as the "Alexander Campbell Bridge"; and, be
it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Secretary of
Transportation, the Commissioner of the Division of Highways and
the State Historic Preservation Office.
